Lindi
Hello there!
My name is Lindi. I am a doctor by day, and a bookbinder by night. How did this happen to be?
Well, I have always considered myself an amazing gift-giver. I have always loved seeing that look of surprise and wonder on someone's face when I give them a thoughtful, handmade gift.
Then came 2020, and I suddenly had all the free time in the world to become an even better gift-giver. ;)
I knew how I felt when someone gave me a book: absolutely elated. So I thought, what if I could make a custom book or journal completely by hand?
And so, my journey began.
It started with a clumsily bound, completely handmade journal, with my friend's favourite flower pressed onto the cover. I will never forget the look on her face when she opened it.
My little business grew much faster than I ever expected. I could barely keep up! Soon, I was hand-embroidering covers, making yearly diaries, experimenting with different binding methods, and even rebinding my favourite books with much prettier covers. Along the way, I also learned many niche, semi-useless things about fabrics, papers, threads and needles.
All of this happened while I was studying to become a medical doctor, and eventually completing my internship years.
I have always thought of this little business as a wonderful distraction from an otherwise all-consuming profession. It gives me a chance to slow down, make something with my hands, and create something that is entirely separate from the world of medicine. And I hope it will continue to grow for many years to come.
Because, ultimately, I don't believe a journal is just a journal.
A handmade, personalised journal is made for a particular person, with their story, their tastes and their little joys in mind. It becomes more than a place to organise daily life or explore writing. I think there is something especially meaningful about receiving something that has taken time to make. In a world that is becoming increasingly fast, automated and digital — where almost anything can be generated, replicated or delivered in an instant — there is something rather lovely about choosing the slower option. The little imperfections, the hours of work, the thought behind every colour and stitch, and the knowledge that someone sat down and made this for you are all part of what makes it special.
So, I hope that when you receive one of my books, you don't just see a journal. I hope you see the time, thought and care that went into making it, and that it becomes a small, tangible reminder of the love, comfort, happiness and warmth it was created to share.
And that, to me, is what makes a handmade book so special.
